June News & Notes

  • Thank you to all who contributed and participated in the open house on Sunday, May 1st. It was a wonderful day made possible by believing and making our dream of an addition a reality.
  • Our sympathy to the family of Jean Lees for the death of her brother, Dale Helm, on May 12th..
  • Our sympathy to the family of Ruth Breidenstein for the death of her mother-in-law, Anna Breidenstein and brother-in-law, Duane Obert.
  • Our sympathy to the family of Mary Rima for the death of her sister-in-law, Claudine Horick on May 20, 2011.
  • Matching Grant Fund—Thank you to all who contributed to the Matching Grant Fund for the Delavan Food Pantry.—Bob Drefs
  • Pictorial Directory—We are getting a new pictorial directory done by Olan Mills. If you missed the coffee hour sign up, please call 1-800-866-2263 for portrait appointments which are June 3rd 2pm-9:20pm and June 4th 9:30am-4:50pm. Those sitting for portraits will receive a complimentary 8 x 10 and a directory once it is completed.
  • Our services are being recorded for our shut-ins. Please contact the office if you know of someone who may wish to view a copy of the Sunday service.
  • Old Fashioned Country Breakfast—The Men's club breakfast is Saturday, June 4th 8-10:30am. Enjoy an old fashioned country breakfast of biscuits, sausage gravy, American fried 'taters, scrambled eggs and drinks prepared and served by the Men's Club. Adults $7, Children under 12 $4.
  • Our Delavan UMC Food Pantry is in need of the following: cold cereal, peanut butter, sugar, Hamburger, Tuna & Chicken Helpers, instant mashed potatoes, canned tuna, and spaghetti sauce.
  • Please check the kitchen for any dishes you may have left at the Salad Luncheon and bring them home today. Thank you!
  • Golf Outing—The Homeless shelter is trying to get at least one foursome from each church signed up for the June 13th golf outing at Prairie Woods Golf Course. If you don't golf, come out for the steak dinner and great raffle prizes and silent auction & support a great cause!
  • Needed - A new home for the banners and all other stuff for the Church Float. They are currently stored at Bona's house and she is moving in June. If you have some extra space in your garage or barn call Bona at 262-728-6961.

  • Pork Chop Dinner—save July 16th for our annual grilled pork chop dinner.
  • Holli Behrens is graduating from DDHS on Thursday evening, June 9, 2011. She is graduating in the top 10 percent of her class and has enjoyed many academic successes including National Honor Society for the last two years and the High Honor Roll. She also received an Academic Award Plaque, along with her Academic pin and letters. She played clarinet in the band for two years and enjoyed being in the musical, "Urinetown" during her senior year. She is excited to study Science at Beloit College next year with a major in Ecology, Evolution, and Behavioral Biology. She hopes to study and work with animals one day, perhaps in a zoo or a marine environment.

April News and Notes

  • Our sympathies to the Ruth Breidenstein family. Beauford Breidenstein died on March 3rd at Lakeland Hospital. His funeral was at church on March 6th with Pastor Stan officiating.
  • Our sympathies also to the John Grober family. John‘s brother, Wayne, died in Sheboygan on March 11th.
  • The Family of Beauford Breidenstein would like to thank everyone for the heartfelt cards, prayers and memorial gifts given in his name. We appreciate your love and support for our loss. He was blessed to have such a loving Christian family and it was his honor to support the church during his life in Delavan. He loved his church, his family and his God.
  • Have you seen the crocus on the South side of the building? Did you know that those were planted 36 years ago in memory of Alice Behlman. Every spring, we go and see what a beautiful site. Remembering all the things Alice was instrumental for the church and community.
  • Easter Flowers—We will be decorating the sanctuary for Easter with Spring flowers. If you are bringing some and would like them in memory or in honor of someone, please sign the sheet in Fellowship Hall. Flowers should be dropped off on the Saturday before Easter between 9-11am and picked up Easter Sunday after church. Please mark your flowers with your name if you plan to pick them up.
  • The Spring Salad Luncheon is Wednesday, April 27th 11:00am-1:00pm $7.00 donation. Carry-outs are available. Tickets are being sold by United Methodist Women.
  • Harvest Dinner—Bona is looking for a Co-Chair for the Harvest Dinner. Duties would include organizing kitchen and dining room help, assisting with prepping and cooking the elements for the dinner. Call Bona at 262-728-6961 or 215-9845.
  • Food Pantry—Our Delavan UMC Food Pantry has been getting a lot of use and is low on food. We would like to collect for our pantry every other week starting today. We will have an updated list of suggested non-perishable items. We can also use monetary donations marked UMC food pantry so that we can buy gift cards to give to people to buy perishables like milk, eggs, etc. Our fourth Sunday collection will still go to the 14th Apostle/Delavan Food Pantry which is at St. Andrew's.
  • The Delavan Food Pantry Matching Fund has reached $3,000 of the $5,000 goal. Please consider giving a little more to help us collect the other $2,000 in order to receive the total of $5,000. Be sure to mark your donation "Matching Fund" or else it will just go in with the regular Delavan Food Pantry donations. Thank you! Bob Drefs
